Artist Taryn Simon uses seeing-is-believing documentary photography to provoke intrigue and conversation around particular human contexts and cultures that she feels warrant society and the viewer to have a closer think and look at. Conceptual art, investigative journalism, social anthropology all become one in the same, what holds them all together is piercing content, clean photography and instigated thought.
In ‘An American Index of the Hidden and Unfamiliar’, she brings to light lesser known and lesser seen objects, situations, places, etc. that tell a unique perspective of America.
